Schroth Therapy and Osteopathy
My name is Peter Roberts, Osteopath and Schroth therapist.  Schroth exercises can reduce curve progression in adolescents, minimising curve size at maturity and maintaining the best possible degree of postural symmetry . For adults the aim is to prevent long term deterioration of curves , reducing the chances of posturally related back pain from increasing curve magnitude and stiffness.
The process includes taking a full history, followed by a thorough examination to assess the clinical need.  An exercise program is then produced including advice on daily activities. The patient then learns to perform their exercises  accurately and reliably, through practice guided by the Schroth therapist.Therapy sessions are in 4 hour blocks, the number of sessions  will vary depending on curve type and  postural maladaptions.Review sessions are then organised to check exercise performance and look for any changes in the curve or curves. Awareness of body position and ability to maintain a corrected posture  will develop over time, enabling patients to gain far better control over their scoliosis. In addition to scoliosis treatment I also treat  the usual range of problems addressed by osteopaths.

It makes no difference if your scoliosis is recently diagnosed or existed for many years, Schroth method can still be effective.
